David Powell & Fenwick Bonnell

Mr. Bonnell was born in Saint John, N.B. At Mount Allison University, he enrolled in the biology program, but when a friend gave him a set of watercolour paints for Christmas, he had an epiphany and switched majors to fine arts. “Then, home on a break, I had a conversation with an architect friend of the family who pointed out there’s no money in fine art, and it would be better to study some kind of commercial art instead. 

So I transferred to Ryerson’s interior design program.” – When Mr. Bonnell was still an undergraduate, one of his professors hired him to work in her offices, where Mr. Powell shared a studio, and the two quickly became friends. “I’d be working away in my office and he’d be in his, and later we’d talk shop on the phone for hours,” Mr. Powell says. “Eventually, it just seemed natural to go into business together.” – Martha Uniacke Breen, National Post · Oct. 1, 2010
