Galileo Large Side Chair - 9259

David Powell’s reinterpretation of the Galileo Lounge chair as a dining chair resulted in the pictured original sketch. Additional hand drafted working drawings were produced to guide the fabricator making the prototype for study and adjustment. As exacting as computer drawings may be, the subtle character of a design is often better transmitted to the hands of a craftsman through the original sketch as conceived by the designer, than might be sensed in a CAD drawing. Most Powell & Bonnell concepts originate as hand drawings, which help communicate the essence of the design to those responsible for its production. Available as a side chair and responding to market requests, a “grander” version of the side chair was created. The hand grip on the outside back is a thoughtful detail and adds the sparkle of jewelry, while also being practical.
